|RAGBRAI Ride in Honor of Dillon Papier
July 25 - 31, 2010
What is RAGBRAI?!
RAGBRAI is the (Des Moines) Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. It is the largest and longest bicycle touring event in the world, and will average 472 miles on this year's route!
UPDATE: Steve Daitch shared a few wonderful stories of his RAGBRAI adventure and the many people who asked about Dillon and Niemann-Pick Disease. RAGBRAI Riders start by dipping their rear tires into the Missouri River on the western edge of Iowa, and conclude the event by dipping their tires in the Mississippi River on the eastern edge of Iowa. Steve shared that it's a crazy scene at the end of the tour with everyone attempting to dip, but when the three Dillon's Army riders (Steve, Kevin Marroquin and David Viar) opened the NNPDF banner with Dillon's picture, everyone stopped until the photo was taken and cheered for them. Steve said it was a very emotional moment.
Congratulations and many thanks to Steve, Kevin and David!
Steve Daitch, friend and supporter of Dillon Papier, will ride across Iowa from the MIssouri River on the west to the Mississippi River on the east in honor of Dillon in this year's 38th annual RAGBRAI, July 25 - 31, 2010.
Seven-year-old Dillon is affected by Niemann-Pick Disease Type C (NPC), a rare, genetic disease which threatens to take his life, and the lives of all others diagnosed with it.
Sponsors and donors are being sought for this fundraising and awareness event. Donations will fund research to find treatments and a cure for NPC. Please join Steve Daitch and Dillon's Army as we bring all our resources to bear against this formidable foe!

Family and Friends Advance the Fight Against Niemann-Pick Disease
|Recently, a couple of Dillon's "girl friends" (not to be confused with "girlfriends," which few 7-year-old boys would admit to having) held their own book sale to benefit NPD.
Sixth graders Nicolette and Katie gathered books, priced them individually, and conducted the sale, getting more friends involved, as well. Dillon's mom, Darrile, said the girls were "absolutely amazing" in their diligence and dedication to the cause. :-)
In between sales, Dillon enjoyed a game of baseball with the girls.
See the creative and informative sales flyer developed by the girls.
Generous donations have also been coming in to honor Dillon's Great Aunt Ruth Steinberg's 90th birthday!
Further, Dillon's cousin Debbie and her husband, Kent Doxzon, celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary recently.
In lieu of gifts, they asked everyone to pitch in for a donation to NNPDF in honor of Dillon's 7th birthday!
This gift was kept a surprise from Dillon's family, and what a nice surprise it was! Almost $1400 came to the NNPDF in honor of Dillon as a result.
This photo shows the Doxzon family at son Sam's graduation party. Ken is to the viewer's left of the graduate, and Debbie is to the right. (Dillon and mom Darrile are in front.)
Thank you, everyone, for your loving support!
